Africa is marking Malaria Day today to try

 to focus its attention on the campaign against one

 of the continent’s deadliest killers. 

The theme of the community has been adopted for

 this year’s event to acknowledge the role of health workers,

 schools and families in the battle to protect people

 from the disease. More than 300 million people 

a year get malaria and more than a million fatalities

 from the disease, the vast majority in Africa. 

 Researchers say the number is expected to rise

 as the parasite which causes malaria becomes increasingly

 resistant to older drugs.
