Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe is reportedly considering
an offer to form a government of national unity in
an effort to settle the country's political crisis.
President Chandrika Kumaratunga announced the proposal
in a national speech Friday.
She is the Prime Minister's political opponent.
On Wednesday, the President dismissed three ministers and suspended Parliament.
She also took control of state media and announced emergency rule in Sri Lanka.
The President accused Mr. Wickremasinghe's government of
harming Sri Lanka's security by making too many compromises with Tamil rebels.
The Prime Minister says the President is sabotaging efforts to end 20 years of war.
