They also use their cell phones to shop or to look up information on line because cell phones are portable. In addition, using mobile apps to communicate is cheaper than using traditional phones. Challenges of starting a career
It is no doubt that young college graduates find it more appealing to start their own career than work for an enterprise, either state-owned or private. Among all the challenges they may encounter, financial burdens, limited contacts, lack of expertise and hands-on experience, just to mention a few, the biggest one in my eyes, is how to fit into this innovative time.
The first demanding job is to assess their dream and decide whether it fills the niche market. With technology advancing every second, new markets are replacing older ones anytime. In such a case, the long-term vision of a start-up company becomes decisive. Moreover, even in the right direction, their career might not thrive without keen awareness of new rivals. After all, starting a career of their own brings about greater competition and responsibility. At last, they must readily accept judgment of new technology, like big data and e-commerce. In this era when every business is accomplished online, a career without innovation is doomed to failure.
In brief, unlike traditional career plans, this decade poses a new challenge for young starters, namely, designing their career based on new markets in the new technology field. If their plan is not far-sighted and thus taking a leading role, all the efforts may come in vain.
Challenges of living in a big city
To live in metropolitan areas or to go back to rural areas—this is not a new puzzle for modern residents. If unfortunately people have no options but to find shelter in big cities like New York and Shanghai, they must be ready for the following challenges.
The first headache for urban people is how to escape from heavy pollution, which attacks in all the forms and at all the time. To survive in water pollution, air pollution, light pollution, and noise becomes the impossible mission. Another difficulty for city residents is the soaring costs of living: housing prices, gas bills, expensive foods, etc. Many young employees struggle to make ends meet. The last but not the least, faster pace of life is crashing dreams and deprive people of the last sense of happiness. Even for few successful people, they have no time to smell the rose.
In summary, challenges like pollution, living expenses and life pressure are stealing joys of urban life. In such a time when business can be done online, retreating to country life might as well a good choice.
Challenges of studying abroad
The past three decades witnessed millions of Chinese youngsters rushing to foreign schools for better education. However, without understanding all the challenges in their study abroad, their life and study might come to a deadlock.
Major difficulties lie in three facets. Language is the first barrier to merging into a new culture. An average international students spend at least one year in language schools preparing for academic learning, and it takes longer to be free in communication. However, cultural shock is more difficult to overcome. In most cases, embarrassment occurs because of cultural differences, which may hinder Chinese overseas students from social interaction. The last but the most demanding job is to change their thinking patterns. Take essay writing for example. Chinese students tend to get lower grades just because their work lacks critical thinking.
In brief, language competence, cultural awareness and mind-setting are three skills for successful study abroad. It is advisable that students consider the three factors seriously before stepping into the destination country.
