The Argentine Central Bank says it’s suspending

 banking and currency exchange operations from next

 Monday. The move follows a growing number of court rulings 

that allow people to take money out of their accounts despite

 government's restrictions on cash withdrawals.

 This has left fears some banks might draw a lot of cash.

 A BBC correspondent in the region says the extreme

 measure of suspending all transactions indefinitely

 will do little to stop the downward economic spiral

 and it suggests that the banks are on the verge of collapse.

 Argentine television has been showing pictures of people

 crying because they are unable to buy food.
