A worldwide survey of attitudes towards AIDS and HIV 

infection carried out for the BBC reveals a wide variation

 and concern about the problem.

 The survey shows that those who are most likely to be

 infected are not necessarily the ones who worry most about it.

 And some respondents in China said they did not know how AIDS

 could be passed from one person to another.

Filana Werge： 15 countries were surveyed including the 

United States, Britain and India.

 While most people have a basic idea of what HIV-AIDS is,

 many of those surveyed in countries which have AIDS problem

 like Nigeria and Brazil do not think its life threatening.

 Those questioned were asked which from

 a list of 5 problems concerned them most,

 some countries where AIDS already has a hold like

 Tanzania and Nigeria who register to the most concern;

 but people in South Africa where the epidemic is 

even more serious were less concerned about AIDS than crime.
